The generation of light is revolutionised by the latest LED technology.The filament lamp, as the name suggests, is still on the same level as the campfire. The problem: 95% of added energy is lost through heat.

Light emitting diodes (LED) belong to the group of cold-light sources and are based upon crystals with implanted impurity atoms.
The electrons, spinning around the atomic nuclei, are deflected through current entry, move to another region, enter the atomic shell and radiate their energy in the form of light. To illustrate this process in a simplified way, you can imagine a shooting star that is ionised on entering the atmosphere.

Diodes have a durability of up to 100.000 operating hours. In comparison, the bulb of a conventional electric torch lasts for about 20 to 100 hours, a filament lamp lasts for about 1000 hours.

		The watertight LED lamp “Frogman” field-tested at “Fyn Rund” on the ASSO 99 “stockmaritime” at night. Each member of the crew had his own lamp. The frogman allows for an early detection of gusts and for ideal steering. The intensity of the light was even sufficient to find and identify surrounding barrels.
